Genetic strength is not achieved soley through the sire line. The significance of the dam line in Arabian horse breeding plays a major role in a successful breeding program. When Dr. Robert Williams and John Brown of Rojo Arabians made the decision to purchase Precious as Gold in 1993, their breeding program would become one of the most significant over the next four decades.
Trussardi, like the immortal Versace, is a son of Precious As Gold, an Aristocrat mare who produced six foals; four won at the National Level, one was Regional Reserve Champion, and one was unshown.
It is almost impossible for a mare line to achieve the same status as that of a sire line due to the limited number of foals they have historically produced. Such was not the case with Precious. The high percentage of show winners was not to stop in a single generation; Precious would shine through the prepotency of her two sons, Versace and Trussardi, over the next several decades. Precious' legacy will be carried on through Trussardi under the ownership of Darkside Arabians.
